The Milz family have been wine growers in Trittenheim since 1520. The Laurentiushof Estate is situated adjacent to the church in the center of the village. Parts of the cellars were built in 1680, and others in 1715. The cellars and the main house have retained over the years their original style, while the winery has been equipped with state-of-the-art winemaking technology, which is reflected in the quality of our wine.

Already in the earlier years, the original property was increased by acquisitions from the vineyards of the Knight of Warsberg and the Count of Hunolstein. Our uniqueness lies in the sole ownership of three vineyards: Felsenkopf and Leiterchen in Trittenheim, and Nusswingert in Neumagen. Our estate is also represented in other high-quality sites, such as the Trittenheimer Apotheke, Trittenheimer Altärchen and Dhron Hofberger. This diversity of prime vineyards expresses itself in the individuality of our wines, and expands the variety of our Rieslings.

Some vineyard plots are 90% steep, the greater part of which at an extreme slope. This facilitates optimal catching of sunlight and warmth. Slate underlies the vineyards earth. The slate serves as heat absorber, keeping the warmth of the sun and conveying it to the vines. This boosts the quality of our grapes and lends our wines a mineral character which spices our wines.

The first mentioning of the Riesling vine in the Mosel river area - is in Trittenheim. The Laurentiushof is one of the oldest local vineyards and cultivation of Riesling. The special thing about us lies in the age of our vines. 80% of our vines are 100 years old or older. The old vines produce substantial rich wines with prolonged storage life. The grapes crop is naturally reduced by cutting the vines prior to the harvest, and the deep roots generate optimal nourishment of the vine.

The Riesling offers a large number of taste variations and will yet always be recognised as itself. There is no other kind of vine whose wines can transport so many aromas and tastes. The lightness and refined play of fruity elegance and delicate acidity vitalise the wine and increase, from one sip to the next, the wish for more. The wide span of our Rieslings reaches from dry – fine herbal wines that serve as the best accompaniment for a good meal – over delicate fruity – to sweet top quality wines that play “solo” and enrich every festivity. This wide range of wine variety is in itself – unique.

We are writing here about tradition, but tradition only makes sense when it is understood as placing the experience of generation at the service of innovation. Modernisation, viewed from the standpoint of our adherence to tight quality assurance and our aspiration to quality, expresses itself by refined and fast and professional processing of selectively hand-picked grapes with modern equipment. The grapes are pressed with a top-of-the-line pneumatic press, and fermentation of the musts takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Retaining the fine yeast in the wine for a longer period of time before bottling, for improved fruity and fresh taste is a standard procedure, and the result of the experience of past generations. Really new is, however, our bottle closure – the Stelvin capsules, the appliance of which is a result of our constant striving to improve on quality.

The Riesling enjoys world-wide demand, and as an accompaniment to various dishes is a real globetrotter. We market our wines in various countries, and adjusted our presentations to modern styles. This brought us to the idea to create a wine with a name that can be understood world-wide – the 180° Riesling. The famous 180° curve, the Mosel river makes around Trittenheim, has inspired this name.
